Sheet Primary School children spread a little festive cheer for Hampshire's homeless

Children from Sheet Primary School have joined forces with Metis Homes and Emmaus Hampshire to help spread a little festive cheer to Hampshire’s homeless community this Christmas.

Earlier this week the children, aged between five and 10, wrapped and decorated shoes boxes filled with essential items donated by them to those experiencing homelessness this Christmas. The boxes and wrapping materials were provided by Metis Homes, a Winchester-based award-winning housebuilder, currently building a selection of new homes behind Sheet Primary School at Millers Brook. Emmaus Hampshire, a homeless charity also based in Winchester, is sponsored by Metis Homes.

The items donated by the children included hats, scarves, socks, toiletries, non-perishable food, thermals, coffee vouchers and dog treats. Julie Robinson, Sheet Primary School headteacher, said: "What a wonderful opportunity for our school community to think of those worse off than ourselves this Christmas time. We were delighted to work with Emmaus Hampshire and Metis Homes on this.”

Dave Oakley, senior sales manager at Metis Homes who joined the children to decorate their boxes and deliver them to Emmaus, said: “It was so much fun – the children had a great time wrapping their boxes and made some very kind donations. We really hope these gifts will help make a difference to someone facing Christmas on the streets this year.

“During the festive season, many of us will enjoy warm homes, nice meals, time with family and exchanging gifts. However, the homeless will be experiencing quite the opposite so we wanted to do something for those people as part of our ongoing support of homeless charity Emmaus Hampshire.”

CEO of Emmaus Hampshire, Nigel Samuels, who is arranging for the boxes of gifts to be given out to those in need, said: “Our Companions (residents) are delighted to be able to distribute these gift boxes to homeless people who are less fortunate than themselves and they were moved by the efforts of the young children form Sheet Primary School.”

Metis Homes was recently named Best Small Housebuilder (Gold) in the 2017 What House? Awards, underpinning its commitment to quality and after-sales care. Only three homes now remain for sale at Millers Brook and Metis Homes will cover the cost of Stamp Duty upon reservations made before Christmas. Prices currently start at £550,000.
